Rallying from an 11-point halftime deficit, the Vaughn College Warriors made things difficult for host Drew University before losing, 79-75, Tuesday (January 25) night in Madison, N.J.

The Warriors fell to 9-9 this season with the loss.

Vaughn, which trailed, 45-34, at halftime, was led by center Mahdi Macbahi and guard Jerome Chan, who each scored 18 points. Forward Al-Ameen Kabba had 15 points and guard Jihad Ceaser had 11.

Vaughn connected on only 40 percent of its first-half shots, but improved that considerably in the second half (52 percent). Vaughn trailed by 13 points late in the second half, charging to within three with 12 seconds remaining. A potential tying three-point field goal from Chan rimmed out, enabling Drew to hang on for the victory.

“We lost, but it was a great game,” Coach Amy Mulligan said. “The guys never gave up.”

Vaughn plays at St. Joseph’s in Brooklyn on Thursday (January 27).
