Thursday, February 19 marks the first day of the spring festival also known as Chinese New Year.  It is widely celebrated in the Chinese culture with vibrant colors, street festivals, traditional food and the exchange of red envelope gifts.

Hosted by the office of student affairs, the Vaughn College community was excited to take part in celebrating the year of the goat in the main lobby with staff and students, allowing them to learn more about the culture of China through historical facts, music and arts and crafts.

Devore McIntosh, assistant director of student activities and engagement, was excited to host the festive event.

“Chinese New Year is an event that brings prosperity and good luck,” said McIntosh.  “A large portion of our student population celebrates this tradition and it is a good opportunity for those who don’t to experience the celebrations of another culture.”
