Representatives from all of Vaughn College’s constituencies gathered on Friday (Dec. 9) to begin the next phase of the College’s strategic planning initiative. A day of small-group work climaxed with presentations in seven key areas, including the College’s mission, infrastructure and academic priorities.

These seven areas of analysis were identified at the College’s stakeholder conference on Nov. 29, after which attendees were enlisted into one of the seven groups. Each group was given a specific charge, or areas in which to concentrate, between now and when the process draws to conclusion in May 2013. Members of the Mission group, for example, were tasked with examining the College’s role and determining if its mission statement applied in light of contemporary realities.

“It’s very important what you are doing,” said Brendan Leonard of Stevens Strategy, retained by the College to manage the process. “You are charting the future direction of Vaughn College.”

Work-group meeting schedules were finalized and plans made for three open campus meetings, at which the work groups will present their conclusions. Implementation will follow.
