College, FDNY respond quickly to campus electrical fire

FLUSHING, NY ¬- Vaughn College, New York City fire fighters and project management personnel reacted quickly to a brief electrical fire on the campus on Wednesday, March 14.

The fire began at about 10 a.m. during a routine gravel delivery to the campus construction site, where work continues on the College’s renovation. There were no reported injuries.

Calls to New York City’s 911 system were placed immediately and the College was evacuated minutes later, shortly before FDNY personnel arrived. Power was turned off campuswide at 10:45, at which time smoke subsided and firefighters completed their response.

Material damage was restricted to the electric room area. Water damage repair is already under way, and temporary electrical service is expected by the end of the week.
