The management department continued their speaker series for the fall semester with Christopher SanGiovanni, director of organizational safety at Uber. In this role, he oversees the operational training, human machine interface, operational standards and leads Uber’s efforts in creating and implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS). SanGiovanni has nearly two decades of experience in transportation safety and quality management programs. 

The presentation covered how safety management systems are applied in a variety of contexts, including aviation and autonomous vehicles and encouraged students to seek careers in the high-need field. 

SanGiovanni also provided insights on how an organization can improve their products by implementing SMS programs and utilizing innovative human-automation interfaces while also focusing on the proper strategies of measuring safety culture as seen below:
