Twenty-one students from the Turk Hava Kurumu Universitesi in Ankara, Turkey, spent part of their summer participating in a four-week American cultural experience program at Vaughn College from July 9 – August 3.

The students were immersed in American culture and the English language through trips to New York landmarks, restaurants, museums and sporting events. Select participants delivered graduation comments in English, and all were awarded program participation certificates by Associate Vice President Said Lamhaouar.

The attendants ages ranged from 17 to 37 with varying individual objectives — some students wanted to acquire a taste of American life, while others wanted to hone their English skills for job interviews.

Vaughn College President Dr. John C. Fitzpatrick, who was on hand at the graduation ceremony said, “This is the first time we’ve instituted a program like this and it’s very exciting to see how much the students learned, and appreciated this unique experience.”
