A CNN news team, led by reporter Allan Chernoff, interviewed Dr. Maxine Lubner, interim chair of Vaughn College’s Aviation and Management departments, Friday (Nov. 19) for a story on pilot fatigue.

Dr. Lubner, an expert in airline safety and psychology, is also an authority on sleep deprivation. She took questions from Chernoff for more than an hour in the flight simulator area for a story scheduled to air Monday (Nov. 22) on CNN’s American Morning program (6-9 a.m.).

Pilot fatigue has been a hot-button issue in aviation for more than two decades. It has surfaced again following a proposed change in Federal Aviation Administration rules that would require pilots to take nine hours of rest between workdays instead of the eight mandated now. The rules would also set weekly and monthly limits on flight duty times and increase pilots’ consecutive hours off each week.
