Vaughn College’s engineering department welcomed alumnus Manny Santana ’13 on Tuesday, November 7 to be the next speaker for the Industry Connection Seminar series. Santana graduated with a major in mechatronic engineering and was among the first accredited class of engineers from Vaughn’s program. He is currently a quality assurance specialist for the Department of Defense and was thrilled to generate interest in the engineering industry by speaking with current students.

“The engineering professors at Vaughn really helped me prepare for my post-graduate experience,” said Santana. “They acted as mentors for me and that translated into my quality management.”

Within quality assurance, the topics of discussion covered professional development, the definition and processes of international organization for standardization (ISO), and quality management principles. Santana touched on the importance of evidence based decision-making, and a process approach to critical problem solving. At the conclusion of the presentation the discussion was opened up for questions from students and faculty.

“Manny is one of the many students that we have coming back to enlighten engineering students about the many different positions that can be held,” said Dr. Hossein Rahemi, chair of the engineering and technology department.
