Position purpose
Mentoring students in the CSTEP Program on engineering related research projects, internships and other program opportunities.
- This position is a one-semester appointment.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks (due to COVID-19, some functions may be conducted virtually):
- Providing mentorship for approximately 5 students over a semester. This group will consist of students of all grade levels at Vaughn.
- Meeting the group weekly.
- Assessing students’ progress towards their deliverables midsemester and post-semester.
- Develop research activities with students.
- Prepare students to present in conferences that include the CSTEP poster session in Technology Day and CSTEP annual Conference. Mentors should attend these sessions.
- Assist students to prepare for their CSTEP annual Day of Service.
- Assist students with applying for and securing internships. This includes sharing information on internship opportunities, writing letters of recommendation, and assisting the student with completing the application.
- Provide progress reports to the Assistant Director and Project Director of the CSTEP program.
- Participate in faculty meetings related to the CSTEP program.
- This may include club-related mentoring, but compensated activity must be limited to CSTEP students and must complete the research requirements above.

Position purpose
CSTEP Tutors provide academic instruction in one-on-one and small group settings to reinforce content of a particular disciplinary area. Peer tutors are Vaughn students and recent Vaughn graduates that support CSTEP students at Vaughn.
This announcement is for the following disciplines: Mathematics/Engineering (e.g., Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics), Physics, and Engineering. Other subject areas as needed.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Providing peer instruction on topics selected by the CSTEP program; this may include workshops, individual tutoring and small groups. Some tutoring may be through an online platform;
- Logging all interactions in the Starfish intervention system;
- Reviewing textbooks and other online materials to keep current in the selected subject area;
- Tutors are expected to remain in the Academic Success Center (L200) or their zoom room, unless otherwise notified by supervisors. (During the COVID-19 pandemic, tutoring may be conducted via Zoom. Tutors are expected to remain available in this platform for the entirety of their tutoring hours.)
- Performing CSTEP-related administrative tasks including but not limited to paperwork, mailings, calling and delivering items;
- Maintaining consistent communication with their supervisor about issues and process improvements for tutoring;
- Attending regular tutor meetings as conducted by supervisors;
- Attending tutor trainings as required; hosting pre-exam workshops focused on problem-solving and test practice;
- Other duties as assigned by CSTEP.

Position purpose
The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of online and classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day at a minimum, the related activities regarding instruction. An instructor performs all other duties as directed by program supervisor.
This position is only active during the semester. Employment for future semesters requires reapplication and rehire.

Position purpose
The Program Activities Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and facilitating activities and events for the Upward Bound program in the Division of Academic Success.
Hours: 20 hours/week and Saturdays required.

- Working as administrative coordinator for the Upward Bound (UB) program;
- Assisting in keeping records on students, program activities and participant participation;
- Coordinating classes, events, and other activities for UB students;
- Planning and implementing events, workshops and field trips;
- Assisting in the process of identifying and building relationships with potential community-based organizations to expose students to a variety of academic, social, and educational experiences;
- Monitoring expenses against allocated budget. Submitting appropriate payment and reimbursement forms to finance;
- Traveling to local schools to disseminate information, recruit cohort participants and for other purposes.to engage students with community building efforts and program wide events;
- Communicating updates to students. This includes designing basic communication campaigns via monitors, texts, flyers, calls, and other dissemination vehicles;

Position purpose
Assist in the operation of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). Specifically developing and implementing activities and services during the academic semester and the Summer Academy, recruitment, advising students as needed, and preparing reports for the program.
Hours: 20 hrs/week, Monday-Thursday, 2 to 7 p.m. ; Occasional weekends.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Deliver activities to students eligible for the HEOP program; these may include, but are not limited to, academic workshops, personal and professional seminars, cultural events, faculty/professional mentoring interventions, and community service. Another recurring activity is hosting financial aid discussions to ensure that all continuing participants complete the appropriate financial aid forms by the established deadlines. Activities are intended to improve academic performance, assist with registering for and financing their education, and retaining at the institution. The counselor should present activities that respond to current student concerns.
- Recruit participants for HEOP opportunities through intrusive advisement and other high impact advertising strategies. This may include developing graphics, flyers, texts, and social media posts.
- Share opportunities from other offices at Vaughn College with HEOP students for participants to receive academic, career, financial, and personal counseling. This may be general advertisements or one-on-one referrals to offices such as Office of Advisement, the Writing/Math Centers, tutoring, Disability Services, Career Services and the Office of Counseling and Wellness.
- Maintain records of services provided as required for NYSED reporting. Assist in the annual NYSED reporting process, including assembling required information from participants and other campus offices.
- Provide one-on-one intrusive academic counseling for HEOP participants. Review participants’ academic progress, special needs, and devise individualized intervention strategies. Consult with faculty, Office of Advisement, and other College offices regarding strategies for students deemed at-risk. The goal is that all participants check-in with the HEOP office at least once per month.
- Serve on the HEOP Admissions Committee. Assist with the selection of prospective HEOP participants by processing and reviewing applications.
- Act as a backup to the Assistant Director in the collection and verification of financial documentation for all matriculating first year HEOP participants. This also includes transfer student verification forms.
- Attend meetings for the Division of Academic Success and the Office of Opportunity Programs as requested.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of HEOP Summer Academy. This includes, but is not limited to, meeting with faculty, residence hall staff, and coordinating food, rooms and other logistical concerns.
- Assist in the recruitment process. In some circumstances this may include evening and weekend participation in online or in-person events.

Candidates must possess a broad professional background especially in computer engineering and cybersecurity in order to support and expand a wide variety of departmental foundation courses and sub-disciplinary elective offerings.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

- Assist in the evaluation of the computer engineering program including annual assessments and self-study reports.
- Teaching undergraduate courses, lecture and laboratory, for the Department of Engineering and Engineering Technology. This includes core departmental courses in the electrical engineering program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware & software engineering, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, networking (e.g., CISCO or other providers) and security system implementation of virtual and physical laboratory.

- Providing 15 hours of workshops. Generally, this is expected to be over 5 weeks at 3 hours per week.
- Planning and delivering workshop content to the students. The content is expected to be related to a topic that is agreed upon by the instructor and the CSTEP project director. As this is an enrichment opportunity, the students are not expected to do out-of-session work.
- Assessing students’ knowledge on the topic through informal assessments.
- Prepare students to report their workshop activities in the CSTEP presentation in Vaughn College Technology Day, CSTEP annual Day of Service and to the CSTEP community.
- Provide a final progress report to the Assistant Director and Project Director of the CSTEP program.
- Participate in faculty meetings related to the CSTEP program.

Position purpose
Working with high school faculty to align Vaughn and Thomas Edison HS curriculum as part of a Heckscher Foundation grant. This position is intended for current full-time or adjunct faculty at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology.

- Serving as a subject matter expert for a particular discipline. Mentor a faculty member at Thomas Edison High School during their redesign and alignment of a course with Vaughn College’s curriculum. The goal is for the course to become rigorous enough to either prepare students for a Vaughn course or receive dual-credit (high school and Vaughn).
- Providing significant artifacts to implement programming, including syllabi, textbook suggestions, topical lists, and assignments.
- Assisting the instructor in course redesign to meet Vaughn standards for credit or for pre-requisite knowledge.
- Meeting with faculty on a regular basis prior to and throughout the implementing semester. Answering questions, reviewing assignments and notes. Providing regular active input and constructive feedback on implementation.
- Where necessary, informally observing classes to understand how the classes are currently taught.
- Making on-site visits to Thomas Edison High School, post-COVID, as needed.
- Participating in meetings with the Thomas Edison HS leadership team, VP, Academic Affairs and Associate VP, Academic Affairs as requested.

Position purpose
Serve as primary administrative steward of Vaughn’s large education grants – currently Title III and V. The role monitors the progress of grant programs against set goals, manages the fiscal matters of the grant including ensuring expenditure compliance, develops annual progress reports, and provides administrative support to the principal investigators and grants manager in carrying out the goals of the grant. This project associate will proactively advise key personnel at Vaughn as to the ongoing progress of the programs.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Coordinate the activities in Vaughn’s educational grants, currently Title III and V. This includes planning educational events, liaising with other offices to recruit participants, and ensuring that necessary programs and events are implemented. This also includes record keeping, project implementation, budget monitoring, performance reporting and related project activities.
- Coordinate the budget of the aforementioned grants. This includes monitoring annual spending versus allocations, ensuring that expenditures comply with college and grantor regulations, and ensuring that products are sourced and received in an appropriate timeline for the grant outcomes.
- Coordinate the reporting for the aforementioned grants. This includes requesting, analyzing, and storing data relevant to the Annual Progress Report (APR) and working with academic and administrative offices to ensure that the appropriate data is collected.
- Coordinate the assessment for the aforementioned grants. This includes working with both the Office of Institutional Effectiveness for internal assessment protocols and the grant’s external evaluator. To assist the grant management team design, implement, collect data according to WWC gold standards. This person will work closely with the external evaluator to assess the project effectiveness and impact on student success.
- Coordinate the personnel for the aforementioned grants. This includes managing and storing Personnel Record Notices, collecting and verifying Time and Effort reports, and ensuring the proper accounting of salaries.

Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Degree must be in public administration, education, counseling, social work or a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field. Relevant degrees will be considered.
Professional Skills
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the higher education landscape and practices at multiple colleges/universities in the New York City metropolitan region.
- Ability to write in proper business English.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
- Ability to understand and follow directions
Work environment and physical functions
This position is located in an office environment. Generally an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area. The office equipment either individually used or shared with a department is the responsibility of all employees.
Preferred:
- 5+ years’ experience in educational program management.
- Knowledge of United States Department of Education grants policies.
- Required software knowledge: Microsoft OneNote (or similar shared notebook software); Microsoft Word and Outlook, including mail-merging; Microsoft Excel, including formulas and pivot tables; G5 Federal Grants system, Grants.gov, Raiser’s Edge, Crystal Reports; Zoom (or similar video conference software).
- Earned Master’s degree in the areas stated above.
- 1+ year experience in non-profit grants (e.g., college grants office, grant project associate, grant writer, foundation program staff).
- Fluency in multiple languages.
