The Bachelor of Science airline management degree program is targeted toward meeting a need in the airline industry for qualified managers who have specialized training in this profession. Graduates of this program will be able to secure entry- to mid-level management positions in airlines. The program includes a substantial component of liberal arts and basic science courses. Courses in the major address management issues in general, as well as aviation and airline management. Students may also complete a variety of elective courses related to airline aviation management, as well as in some technical areas.

In addition, new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations currently require Safety Management System (SMS) programs to be implemented in airlines, so an SMS certificate as part of this degree gives graduates an additional advantage in their careers.

Other certificate and elective programs are available including SMS, cargo, drones, import/export, customs, security, and dispatch.

The airline management program includes a substantial component of liberal arts and basic science courses. The general management courses build on the skills derived from the language, humanities, science and math foundation to prepare students in the various functional areas of management—accounting, finance, economics, public relations and planning. Courses in the major address issues in general aviation and airline management. These include international trade, airline services, cargo, finance, accounting, marketing, public relations and strategic management.

Students may complete a variety of elective courses related to airline aviation management as well as in some technical areas, including FAA dispatch.

Students interested in this program are eligible to participate in the FAA’s Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) according to the requirements listed in the AT-CTI section. Students may also complete the dispatcher program according to the requirements described in the section Aircraft Dispatcher License Training Program.

Graduates will be prepared for careers in airlines and related businesses for entry- to mid-level positions of administrative responsibility in public or private enterprises and for further study at the graduate level.

Career possibilities afforded to students in this program include customer service representative, aircraft financing or leasing agent, crew scheduling manager, and dispatcher.

Potential internships and employers for graduates include: Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Emirates Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Spirit Airlines, JetStream Ground Services, Inc., Air France KLM, JetBlue Airways Corporation.

Vaughn College’s career services department employs a variety of tools to assist students and alumni in their development as professionals. The department meets and communicates with individuals through appointments, e-mail and phone conversations, providing information, editing and reviewing resumes and helping with the job and internship search process. It implements weekly workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills and job fair etiquette. It organizes job fairs in the fall and spring, each with 40-plus companies, and a graduate school fair in the winter.

The department also networks with companies on behalf of Vaughn students for job and internship opportunities. It manages a private job board website, Vaughn Career Connect, where students and alumni can post resumes and apply for positions. Employers registered on the site can post jobs as well as search and review student and alumni resumes for potential candidates for open positions. Outside the classroom, Vaughn students get together, work together and have fun together in student clubs, professional societies, honor societies, and in intercollegiate athletics. The Vaughn Warriors compete in men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, and cross country; and men’s soccer and baseball as a part of the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
