Vaughn: The Veteran’s Advantage

Vaughn Has the Kind of Programs Veterans Need to Succeed

At Vaughn College, your military experience, relevant training, and discipline will give you a valuable head start in Vaughn’s particular areas of study, namely:

  • Aviation
  • Engineering
  • Technology
  • Management

That may be why so many veterans are attracted to Vaughn, in addition to the excellent support and services the College offers. It’s these advantages that have prompted US News & World Report to rank Vaughn as one of the “Best Regional Colleges for Veterans.”

Need more proof? Just ask our students. A full 14% of them are veterans, just like you.

maldoVeteran Spotlight: Jefferson Maldonado, Class of ’16

After four years of naval service and a lifelong interest in robotics, Jefferson was faced with a choice: re-enlist or apply to colleges. He chose to pursue education and cites his military experience as a driving force for applying to Vaughn.

“They wanted me to stay, to re-enlist; but by the end, I would see these engineers flying in to the aircraft carrier and I thought: ‘I really want to be one of those guys.’ So I started looking at colleges.”

Jefferson made the decision to come to Vaughn after he read about the mechatronic engineering program and the robotics club available to students. In the spring of 2013, he was named president of the robotics club and spent much of his time designing, developing and building robots for competitions while helping newer Vaughn students, particularly veterans, acclimate to the community.

Jefferson graduated in 2016 with a degree in mechatronic engineering and accepted his dream job as a robotics engineer with ArcBest Technologies just after graduation. See his full story here.
