The mechatronic engineering program was designed based on the industry’s most current technology and research. With a strong career focus in mind, our mechatronic engineering curriculum was developed to combine mechanical, electrical and computer engineering to prepare students for this fast-paced and ever-changing industry. Vaughn’s mechatronic engineering program gives students the education and tools needed to have successful engineering careers in aerospace, automation, automotive, computer, communications and other high-tech industries.
The strong focus in the primary areas of engineering, along with access to advanced liberal arts courses―including specialized electives and real-time projects provided by Vaughn’s industry advisory council of leading technology manufacturers―has allowed our mechatronic engineering students to become successful in a variety of industries.
Student learning outcomes, objectives of this degree program and graduation and employment data are available here.
The educational objectives for this degree are developed to prepare students for post-graduation activities. These program objectives are intended to produce versatile engineering graduates who:
Obtain positions requiring design, development, analysis, control, and automation of mechatronic systems and processes
Are academically prepared for a graduate program, professional and/or continued education
Conduct themselves as responsible members of society through involvement in community and professional engagement
Our mechatronic engineering curriculum is constantly expanding with the ever-changing needs and demands of the engineering industry. Our rigorous program has two primary objectives:
1) To provide a link between academia and the industry
2) To teach students to understand and work with analytical, computational and experimental methods of mechatronic engineering. The goal of the mechatronic engineering curriculum is to give graduates the ability to evaluate these methods and use them in practical situations in order to help find the best solutions.
The mechatronic engineering curriculum includes a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and electronics in addition to a wide selection of electives. These include advanced digital design, data acquisition, the introduction to electronic power systems, design and computer programming, among others. Students gain a broad-based understanding of the fundamental technical subject areas in mechatronic engineering, which will prepare them to pursue full-time jobs after graduating.
