Vaughn’s mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree program provides students with a strong foundation in engineering analysis and design. In addition, students will have the hands-on opportunity to learn analytical, computational and experimental methods of mechanical engineering, which are in high demand in the industry today.
The mechanical engineering program introduces students to the reliability and safety analysis of mechanical engineering. The strong focus on the design process in the curriculum is to train well-qualified graduates who will be ready for positions in a variety of engineering industries. The mechanical engineering curriculum includes training in mechanical computer-aided engineering (such as computer-aided 3D interactive application), Patran Nastran, engineering analysis utilizing MATLAB and finite element analysis.
Student learning outcomes, objectives of this degree program and graduation and employment data are available here.
The educational objectives for this degree are developed to prepare students for post-graduation activities. These program objectives are intended to produce versatile engineering graduates who:
Obtain positions requiring design, development, analysis, and implementation of mechanical systems and processes
Are academically prepared for a graduate program, professional and/or continued education
Conduct themselves as responsible members of society through involvement in community and professional engagement
The mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree program provides students with a strong foundation in engineering mechanics, mathematics, computer-aided design and the base fundamentals that have created and evolved engineering as a whole. Graduates will have the knowledge and tools to design and evaluate various situations and take analytical and experimental methods to evaluate different solutions.
Our courses are constantly evolving to adapt to the ever-changing industry, setting up students for successful engineering careers. Courses cover a wide range of topics which include rectilinear, curvilinear and dynamic motion. In addition, students learn about the kinetics of rigid bodies, plane motion of rigid bodies, mechanical vibration and linear motion, and the conservation of energy impact and momentum. Our courses in the fundamentals of thermodynamics includes system concepts, the state of equilibrium and processes’ properties. Our courses in the laws of thermodynamics―including the zeroth, first and second laws―set students apart when they are ready to apply for jobs.
