The aviation maintenance management bachelor of science program has been designed to broaden the perspective of the aviation professional. It provides the education and training necessary to prepare students to assume leadership and management roles in aviation maintenance. This option builds upon a solid technical background with courses that will prepare the graduate for advancement in the aviation industry.

The mission of the Aviation Maintenance Management program is to broaden the perspective of the aviation professional. It provides the education and training necessary to prepare men and women to assume leadership and management roles in aviation maintenance.

This program offers training in maintenance, avionics and operations of aircraft systems, blending theoretical and practical approaches. Emphasis is also placed on training in accounting, marketing, business communications, industry and labor relations, economics and finance.

Graduates will have completed the necessary coursework to assume leadership roles managing maintenance systems for the manufacturing and repair of aircraft and their components. They also will have acquired the foundation to further their studies at the graduate level.

The degree consists of four components: 1) the satisfactory completion of all courses required for certification through Vaughn’s Aviation Training Institute or possession of the airframe and powerplant certificate or equivalent international certification or military experience for which students are awarded 30 college credits; 2) 43 credits of advanced maintenance and technology coursework, including advanced aircraft systems and avionics technology; 3) a solid foundation in arts and science with 30 credits; and 4) students will complete 18 credits in management coursework.

Graduates will have completed the necessary coursework to assume leadership and management roles in the aviation maintenance field. They also will have acquired the foundation to further their studies at the graduate level. Graduates will be able to apply the knowledge, skills and techniques of an enhanced aviation maintenance program to analyze and solve issues specifically in the maintenance environment.

Career possibilities afforded to students in the program include logistics manager, maintenance scheduling manager and maintenance production manager.

Potential internships and employers for graduates include: Flight Safety International, JetBlue, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Jet Aviation.

Vaughn College’s career services department employs a variety of tools to assist students and alumni in their development as professionals. The department meets and communicates with individuals through appointments, e-mail and phone conversations, providing information, editing and reviewing resumes and helping with the job and internship search process. It implements weekly workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills and job fair etiquette. It organizes job fairs in the fall and spring, each with 40-plus companies, and a graduate school fair in the winter.

The department also networks with companies on behalf of Vaughn students for job and internship opportunities. It manages a private job board website, Vaughn Career Connect, where students and alumni can post resumes and apply for positions. Employers registered on the site can post jobs as well as search and review student and alumni resumes for potential candidates for open positions.
