Summer Institute

Welcome to the TryEngineering Summer Institute!

This exciting two-week experience is designed to inspire future engineers through an engaging (and fun!) on-campus experience. Students explore different fields of engineering while learning how they can use engineering principles and lessons to solve real-world challenges. Students ages 12-17 participate in a broad range of fun and educational design challenges across the engineering spectrum.

In the past, students have designed robot arms, drones and remote-controlled cars, built and launched rockets, and even learned to solder working circuits. Students also experience real-life work firsthand during behind-the-scenes tours with real-life engineers at locations like NASA, LaGuardia International Airport, a ConEdison power station, local engineering companies, aerospace contractors and more.

Introductory Engineering Program

The Introductory Program at the TryEngineering Summer Institute is ideal for students considering a degree or career in engineering, as well as for those just curious to learn more about the field and enjoy creative design challenges. This program is structured to challenge and inspire students through an interactive and engaging curriculum designed by IEEE STEM specialists specifically, for our Summer Institute. Students participate in team-based, hands-on design challenges, hear from fascinating guest speakers, and experience exciting off-campus field trips to local engineering sites.

Advanced Engineering Program

The curriculum and coursework for the Advanced Program builds in intensity, providing a fun challenge for older and more experienced students. Students will deepen their understanding of the engineering field through curriculum designed by IEEE STEM specialists specifically for our Summer Institute.
