Jose Bonifaz, Class of '09
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology
Kew Gardens, New York
"I presented my mechatronics research to the world." Jose Bonifaz chose Vaughn College because he wanted a great degree that was dedicated to engineering. He also found the opportunity to showcase the knowledge he gained to the world.
While a student here, Jose competed in robotics tournaments such as the VEX Robotics World Championship in Texas. He also published and presented papers at professional conferences on his work in mechatronic engineering, an innovative field that uniquely combines the elements of mechanical, electronic and computer engineering to design "smart" technology. In fact, he traveled with a Vaughn professor and three other students to San Cristóbal, Venezuela, to present his paper, "Mechatronics in the Evolution of Our Agriculture" at the Seventh LACCEI Latin American and Caribbean Conference for Engineering and Technology.
Jose views these experiences as invaluable. "Vaughn provided me with an unforgettable college experience," he says. "It gave me the hands-on training and networking opportunities I need to succeed in the real world. I enjoyed all of the activities and school clubs, such as robotics and leadership."
Now a Vaughn graduate, Jose knows he was right about the school's engineering program. "The curriculum is outstanding-and so are the professors," Jose explains. He especially appreciates the one-on-one contact. "If I ever needed help with anything, or just wanted to talk, I was confident that my professors would be available whenever I needed them.
"That kind of accepting, open atmosphere is important."
