  Vaughn Warriors Make the Championships

Vaughn College's Warriors secured their first berth to the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference Championships with their win against Albany Pharmacy by one point (final score 67 Vaughn 66 Pharmacy) on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Unfortunately the team lost to St. Joseph's Sunday, February 21. This was the first time Vaughn has reached the championship game in intercollegiate play.  The Warriors had a great season thanks to Coach Amy Mulligan.  Go Warriors!

Regional Jet Trainer Added to Simulator Fleet

The aviation department has added yet another simulator to its fleet of new training devices--a CRJ-200. Built by Paradigm Flight Simulation, this simulator includes a fully enclosed flight deck and 220 degree wrap around visuals.  Students are completely immersed in the training environment. All flight deck controls, panels, knobs, switches, and other components of the simulator are replicated as in the real aircraft in size, placement, and functionality. In the last few months, Vaughn has also added a Frasca 241 and two Redbirds and the CRJ is a wonderful addition to this $1 million lab.

  ATI Professor John Karakian Retires

After 43 years of faithful service teaching, Professor John Karakian is retiring from full-time teaching at the end of the fall term. Hired as a lab instructor on June 1, 1966 after graduating from what was then the Academy of Aeronautics, he was ready for a lifelong career in the classroom. As his successful career comes to a close, he hopes more students will continue to pursue careers in aviation and remain in this exciting and challenging field. Karakian will continue teaching ATI courses as an adjunct one day a week for the foreseeable future. On some of the other days, he will pursue his passion for golf. Everyone in the Vaughn College community wishes him well. Thank you for your service, Jack!

Aviation and Vaughn Lose a Caring and Dedicated Friend

It is with great sadness that the Vaughn College community marks the passing of William DeCota, director of aviation for The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who died on Friday, September 11, 2009.  Vaughn awarded Mr. DeCota with an honorary doctoral degree in 2006 and throughout his tenure as director he was a tremendous supporter of the vision and mission of the College including securing nearly $25 million in funding for capital initiatives.  In his honor, Vaughn’s flag flew at half mast the week of September 14 and a moment of silence was held on Tuesday, September 15.  Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family and friends, particularly the staff at The Port Authority.

Bill Puckhaber, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and Kevin Malone, of Delta Airlines, were on hand to present the check to President John Fitzpatrick.
