Vaughn Professors to Deliver Paper on Aviation Safety

April 19, 2011

Vaughn College Professors Drs. Maxine Lubner and Stephen Braccio will present a paper on aviation safety at the 16th International Symposium of Aviation Psychology in May.

The paper, titled "The Continuing Challenge of Aviation Safety in Africa," compares safety records in New York City and Tanzania, in east Africa. Drs. Lubner and Braccio will present their findings at Wright State University, site of the May 2-5 conference.

New York and Tanzania were selected for analysis because of their wide socioeconomic differences and level of government involvement in the aviation industry. The paper identifies similarities and differences between the regions in the hope of finding ways to improve safety records in Tanzania and ensure that safety remains a priority in New York.

The symposium, held at the university named after the world famous Wright brothers, brings together leading aviation experts from across the country. Among its goals is the creation of safer and more efficient global flight systems.

Dr. Lubner is chair of the College's aviation and management departments and an authority on flight psychology. Dr. Braccio teaches in the College's management department.
