Fall Open Houses Draw Record Numbers
November 16, 2013
A record number of 460 prospective students attended Vaughn College's fall open houses over the last two Saturdays.
What started as a rainy, overcast day, turned sunny and warm as attendees filled the College's hangar to learn about Vaughn's programs at the second open house.
Ernie Shepelsky, vice president of enrollment services, opened the event and then turned the microphone over to President Dr. John C. Fitzpatrick and Senior Vice President Dr. Sharon DeVivo who welcomed the crowd and gave them a preview of what they could expect during their visit.
The Majercik-Scott family drove from Binghamton this morning to attend the event. Their goal was to see the College in person and learn more about Vaughn for their son Tyler, who is interested in studying animation and engineering.
Another prospective student, Roza Muntaz, recently relocated to New York from Guyana with her family, and hopes to begin studying aircraft operations at Vaughn in the spring. Muntaz began studying engineering at the Art Williams & Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School in Guayna but decided to switch her studies to flight. "I am excited to be here today," said Muntaz."I took a ride in a flight simulator and saw the advanced technology Vaughn students are currently learning on."
During the day, prospective students were broken out into groups based on their areas of interest. They toured the College, viewed the new Air Traffic Control (ATC) lab, heard specifics about academic programs and took part in hands-on, interactive learning experiences.
Representatives from various College departments including admissions, financial aid, career services, alumni, student affairs and athletics, as well as student club members, were on hand to answer questions
"The turnout was impressive and the audience was truly engaged," said Fitzpatrick. "I witnessed many dynamic interactions between attendees, faculty and current students, and I'm sure they all learned a great deal about Vaughn College today."
