Fall Career Fair Attracts Over 300 Students

Vaughn's fall career fair, held September 27, continues to grow each year presenting students with numerous opportunities for networking, securing internships and employment.  This year's fair attracted 45 employers and over 300 students and alumni.

"The fair was very successful this year," said Director of Career Services Philip Meade. "We have a regular network of companies that attend to meet Vaughn students, but this year we had the most companies to date, including new additions like Southwest Airlines and PlaneClear."

Companies attending included airlines JetBlue, Southwest and Air Canada; government agencies, including The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Homeland Security; the Army, Navy, Marines and Air National Guard; New York City and Nassau County Police Departments, New York City Fire Department, and aviation service firms Aviation, Avionics and Instrument Corp., Aircraft Service International Group and Ultimate Aircraft Deicing Corp.

Employer representatives talked to Vaughn students and alumni about full- and part-time opportunities and career-focused internships. From Jet Blue, Walter Kerzner and Sergio LaBoy, an adjunct at Vaughn, reviewed students resumes and instructed them on how to set up a profile on the company's website, while Ben Lafleur from the FAA talked to students about air traffic control opportunities. The Nassau County Police booth also attracted many students this year due to their immediate recruitment efforts. For the first time in five years, the department will be offering the civil service test on October 12 for entry-level officer positions.

Vaughn College will hold a spring recruitment fair on Thursday, April 11, 2013.
