Vaughn College Professor Dr. Yougashwar Budhoo delivered three papers at the Society of Experimental Mechanics (SEM) conference at the Mohegan Sun resort in Uncasville, Conn. recently.
Buddhoo, a 2005 Vaughn College graduate, presented papers titled "Effect of Temperature on the Tensile Behavior of Hybrid and Non-Hybrid Woven Composites"; "Temperature Effect on the Poisson's Ratio of Woven Composites"; and "Temperature Effect on Drop-Weight Impact of Woven Composites."
Budhoo submitted his papers in early spring. All three were approved for presentation at the June 13-16 conference, whose theme was "Experimental Mechanics in the Age of Modeling and Simulation." He now has had four papers published in the past eight months.
"Composite materials are vastly used in engineering applications and are exposed to numerous environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity and more," Budhoo said. "Understanding their behavior under these conditions is very critical. There isn't a lot of published experimental work that studies the effect of temperature. My papers attempt to bring some new insight into the behavior of hybrid and non-hybrid composites at high and low temperatures."
SEM is an international network of engineers and scientists interested in the application of engineering measurements and materials on system behavior. It was established in 1943 and is one of the largest engineering societies in the world.
