Assistant Professor, Mathematics for Fall 2015

Vaughn College seeks to fill a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching a diverse student population, a willingness to teach courses for both engineering and management students and the ability to collaborate with other departments. Faculty in the department are involved with learning communities, student peer instruction and student research projects. Candidates with an interest in one or more of these areas are desired.

Requirements

The minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in pure or applied mathematics. All areas of mathematics are encouraged to apply; preference will be given to candidates whose research is applied mathematics.

Submit a curriculum vitae as well as statement on teaching and learning practices. Faculty invited to the campus will be asked to teach a sample class. Applications received by February 1, 2015 will be given first preference. Other applications will be considered if the position is not filled.

Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology is a private college located in the borough of Queens in New York City, with a student body of about 2000 students. Vaughn offers degrees in engineering, engineering technology, management and aviation. The department of arts and sciences offers humanities, mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science courses.

Chief Ground Instructor

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to conform to the following:

• Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
• Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
• Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
• Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other supervisors, coworkers, customers, vendors, agencies, etc.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

1. Certifying each student's training record, graduation certificate, stage check and end-of-course test reports, and recommendation for course completion

2. Ensuring that each certificated ground instructor passes an initial proficiency check prior to that instructor being assigned instructing duties in the College's approved training course, and thereafter that the instructor passes a recurring proficiency check every 12 calendar months after the month in which the initial test was accomplished

3. Ensuring that each student accomplishes the required stage checks and end-of-course tests in accordance with the College's approved training course

4. Maintaining training techniques, procedures, and standards for the College that are acceptable to the administrator

5. The chief ground instructor must be available at the College or, if away from the pilot school, be available by telephone, radio, or other electronic means during the time that training is given for an approved training course

A. Education and/or Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree, able to meet FAA FAR 141.35 standards

B. Professional Skills
Flight instructor experience as required by FAA Part 141

C. Reasoning Ability
Ability to work with instructors, students, FAA and college administration to meet the standard requirements of FAA FAR Part 141

D. Work environment and physical functions
This position is located in an office environment. Generally an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area. The office equipment, either individually used or shared with a department, is the responsibility of all employees.

ESL Instructor

Description

Vaughn College is seeking part-time faculty to teach English as a second language (ESL) courses for the English Language Institute (ELI). The ELI curriculum follows the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) standards and levels for student placement. Adjunct positions are available for day and evening courses. The candidate would also be expected to work in collaboration with other academic departments as well as the teaching and learning center.

Responsibilities
• Deliver instruction in accordance with the learning objectives set for the course
• Develop and manage lesson plans
• Monitor and assess student progress through regular testing
• Assist the director in obtaining ESL accreditations for the program

Requirements

• ESL certification is required
• A combination of teaching experience and ESL teaching skills
• MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) preferred, or equivalent
• An ability to work closely with colleagues and initiate collaborations with faculty from other disciplines
