Aviation Department Chair

Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology is inviting applications for the position of chair of the aviation department. The department is seeking a dynamic and vision-directed leader with an established record in the aviation field and a strong academic background. The department offers bachelor's and associate degrees in aircraft operations, aviation maintenance and aviation maintenance management. A bachelor of science degree in aeronautical sciences is also planned.

The department chair acts as intermediary between the college community and the department itself. In consultation with department members, the department chair has the primary responsibility and authority for:
• Recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, and evaluation of faculty and department staff
• Establishing departmental budget
• Formulating and recommending teaching assignments and scheduling of classes while regulating faculty workloads
• Developing and articulating agreements with other colleges and schools
• Ensuring that faculty in the department are fully engaged in departmental and general faculty duties
• Acting as an advocate for the mission of the department
• Acting as a mentor and facilitator for the faculty and staff and students
• Promoting the academic quality of the department
• Conducting searches for faculty positions (full-time and adjunct)
• Working with director of flight training to assure flight program quality
• Implementing and managing FAA part 141 courses
• Implementing, designing and managing R-ATP standards
• Examining the departmental offerings and curriculum
• Evaluating course proposals
• Implementing and managing the departmental assessment process
• Implementing and managing the departmental accreditations (AABI)
• Managing specialized facilities (simulator labs, technical equipment, instruments, etc.)
• Organizing and presiding at department meetings
• Encouraging faculty professional development
• Responding to student petitions, complaints, requests, etc.
• Promoting and enhancing the image of the department

Requirements

A doctoral degree in aviation or a related field is required. Experience in the aeronautical field is also required. Strong prior teaching experience is an advantage.

Management Department Faculty Member

Vaughn College seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position for its associate in applied science, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in airport, airline and general management. These degrees also include the Air Traffic–Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI), flight dispatch and other aviation and management-related courses and certificate programs.

The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in Vaughn's management programs. This faculty position calls for an individual who is committed to student engagement both inside and outside the classroom and in creating opportunities for students to achieve success in the aviation and management fields.

Responsibilities include:
• Teaching lecture and laboratory undergraduate and graduate courses in airport, airline and general management, as well as the areas related to domestic and international aviation
• Remaining knowledgeable of Federal Aviation Regulations
• Being familiar with business and management computer simulation programs
• Assisting the management department in the implementation of new technologies as needed
• Designing courses that support student learning outcomes as outlined by the department
• Developing and implementing assessment tools to measure student achievement
• Implementing a continuous improvement processes related to ongoing assessments
• Assisting the department in obtaining and managing students' records to facilitate communication with accrediting agencies
• Advising students interested in airport, airline and general management careers
• Chairing or serving on department/college committees
• Participating in scholarly activities such as working on independent research and with students to present and publish papers related to airport, airline and general management at conferences and in professional and scholarly journals
• Supporting the work of the department in fulfilling the mission and vision of Vaughn

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in airport, airline and general management and related courses. Special consideration will be given to those candidates with extensive and recent experience in the airport, airline and general management fields.

Requirements

A doctoral degree in airport, airline and general management or related fields is required. Experience in the airport, airline and general management field is also required. Prior teaching experience, including online, is an advantage.
