Academic Resource Center (ARC)Back to top
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) offers a variety of services, including peer tutoring, computer tutorials, audio/video aides, reference textbooks, English as a Second Language (ESL), and a quiet study area. These services help students improve academic performance and supplement their education. All Vaughn College students are encouraged to take advantage of the support services available at the ARC in our Teaching and Learning Center.
Assessment CenterBack to top
The Assessment Center handles the testing and placement of all incoming students in cooperation with our Admissions office. Appointments for taking the Accuplacer test for English and math course placements are made through academic support services.
Aviation Outreach Program (AOP)Back to top
This program aims to increase the number of prepared students that enter college and improve participation and performance, specifically in mathematics, science and technology. Community involvement, networking and outreach are a vital part of the program.
Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP)Back to top
Vaughn participates in the New York State Education Department's Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). This program has been designed for educationally and economically disadvantaged New York state residents who otherwise might not be able to attend college. HEOP provides several academic and financial support services to assist students. These services include the summer immersion program, tutorial services, counseling services and financial assistance. To find out more, email Abdelouahed Haiber or call him at 1.866.6VAUGHN, ext. 160.
Language LabBack to top
Here, tutors and interactive computer programs can help you learn or practice a foreign language, or help reinforce correct English pronunciation-a key requirement for air traffic controllers.
Peer Tutoring ProgramBack to top
Vaughn students who need tutoring in various subjects have the option of turning to their peers for extra help. Peer tutors work with their fellow students on a one-to-one basis at a mutually convenient time. Periodic meetings are held between the student and the director of the ARC to track the student's progress and the overall effectiveness of the tutorial program.
Quick Start Pre-Freshmen Summer Immersion ProgramBack to top
This is an intensive, six-week summer program to introduce pre-freshmen to fundamental math, science, technical and aviation-related concepts.
Student Advisement Center (SAC)Back to top
An integral part of the academic support services at Vaughn, the Center is committed to fostering a SMART (Standardized Method of Advising, Retaining and Training) driven environment that will enable our student body to flourish academically, personally and professionally. The SAC is designed to provide students with practical solutions, from the point of admission to graduation, for achieving academic success and maintaining matriculation.
Upward Bound ProgramBack to top
Upward Bound is a federal TRIO program funded by the US Department of Education, which is distributed to institutions through competitive grants. TRIO programs help students overcome social and cultural barriers to higher education. Upward Bound serves disadvantaged, first-generation and low-income high school students and is designed to motivate high school students and help them gain important skills necessary for success beyond high school. This program encourages and addresses the needs required to successfully complete high school and post-secondary education. Upward Bound is the type of program that will provide academic, social and cultural experiences during the high school years, which will greatly increase the probability of students enrolling in college and graduating from college.
WorkshopsBack to top
Members of the faculty and staff conduct mini-lectures (workshop formats) geared towards the student and college life throughout the academic year. These lectures are not a part of the general curriculum. They cover topics such as studying effectively and time management.
Writing LabBack to top
Build your writing skills with help from Vaughn faculty, student tutors and professional authors who share their thoughts, ideas and tips. Learn research techniques, attend workshops on a variety of writing topics, or get some help editing a paper or essay.
